Happy 4th of July from Nipon. Morning started with a traditional American breakfast - no curry or spaghetti. Miss Diana gave all the kids flag pins to put on their lanyards to celebrate our day. Then we had to say goodbye to our wonderful hosts.
Our drive to Takayama took us through some of the most spectacular scenery - meandering through the mountains on extremely narrow roads the wound through mountainous terrain with a roaring river and snow on top of some of the peaks. If you looked closely you could also catch glimpse of a few waterfalls and the occasional steam escaping through the ground from the volcanic activity.
For lunch we stopped at a quaint roadside venue in the Nagano region where the students tried to order their meals from a variety of different vendors in Japanese they had learned earlier on the coach from Yukari-san. They did really well and the view was amazing - over looking a lake on road the locals call the Lovers' Pathway.
We passed the time on the coach singing, playing cards, listening to music, learning Japanese and enjoying the scenery.
Good night for now.
